WANDERINGS

In Ieva Trinkūnaitė’s paintings, a mysterious and idyllic natural world opens up to the viewer’s gaze. The canvases feature vast landscapes with rocks of unearthly hues, gaping craters and waters full of life gathering in them, and lush vegetation rustling in the wind. In these landscapes, animals are placed singly or in pairs, which the artist conveys in particular, in detail, with special tenderness and care. Her empathetic attitude towards animals is revealed in their emotional images, inviting one to empathize and experience a common experience. Animals seem to catch the gaze of the audience with their gazes, seeking contact and connection – they are us, we are them.

The artist observes nature from an ecological perspective, emphasizing the impact of humans on nature, the climate crisis, and issues of interspecies relations. Much attention is paid to the changed natural environment. In the usual green nature paintings, the bright tones of red and the change in color are not accidental – they signal changes, that the environment is no longer what we usually see or imagine, that the world we know is changing not only us, but also all other beings, as if turning them into hostages of activity. This can be an anxious hint about the fragility of our environment, about the indelible trace of man on Earth, about the disrupted natural cycles of nature, threatening irreversible consequences. In Ieva’s paintings, these restless feelings intertwine with a melancholic longing for (not yet) lost beauty.

Then the anxiety that stirs inside does not create scenarios for future alternatives and encourages humanity to save itself, but rather looks around, allowing yourself to admire our cozy habitat, wander (at least with your eyes) through unvisited lands, count lazy sunny afternoons in meadows, jump over the dense sea of shade with a ring of flowers. dark eyes that sparkled.
