Eimutis Markūnas (b. 1959) is a versatile and multifaceted artist who creates stained glass windows, paintings, graphics, video works, drawings, photographs, installations, objects, promotions. The natural vitality of the artist’s personality and the unstoppable flow of creativity are evidenced by over a hundred stained glass and art glass objects, installations and promotions implemented in public and private spaces, over half a dozen personal exhibitions, and active participation in various exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad.

The artist’s works have been purchased by the National M. K. Čiurlionis Art Museum in Kaunas, the Museum of the Vilnius Academy of Arts, the Finnish Glass Museum in Ryhimek, the Emschertal Museum in Germany, the State City Museum in Berlin (Scharf-Gerstenberg Collection), the Mark Rothko Art Center in Daugavpils (Latvia), the Imago Mundi Foundation in Italy (Luciano Benetton collection), private Lithuanian, Czech, Canadian, Finnish, Dutch, Danish, Irish, Collectors from Germany, Norway, USA, France, Estonia, Belgium, Australia, Latvia, Spain, India, Nepal.

However, the value of an artist’s work is determined not by variety or quantity, but by original thinking and a unique style of expression. On the one hand, it is inseparable from the context as the environment surrounding the creator – E. Markūnas belongs to the so-called “Breakthrough Generation” generation of artists, which is associated with the 20th century. 9-10 Dec. The art field processes that took place in Lithuania and the movement of the “Angis” group, founded in 1990. On the other hand, it is the creator’s individual relationship with the perception and evaluation of the world and with the goals he consciously sets for himself. For E. Markūnis, creativity is an internal necessity and a never-ending process. A process where feeling and thought interact. These two subjects acquire new ambiguous narratives every time.

It is in painting that the emotional beginning of E. Markūnas’s personality is most clearly revealed. As the most important means of expression, the artist uses color, light and gesture. The dynamic resolution of strokes on large-format canvases, paper, wood or corrugated metal panels, as well as the perception of color, in E. Markūnas’s work varied: from active color to monochrome in the images created by the graphite technique (graphite painting). And the energetic effect of light and unlimited imagination are powerfully revealed in the drawings created by masterly author’s technique.

According to the poet Julius Keller, human nature is born in them as if from the primordial cosmic breath. From the depths of nothingness or the subconscious, terrifying yet hypnotizing images emerge. Out of chaos a new world is born. The world of Eimutis Markūnas.
