I am Virginijus Malčius – video artist, animator, painter, I write and illustrate children’s books. I graduated from Šiauliai University (now Vilnius University Šiauliai Academy) with a bachelor’s degree in audiovisual art, and at the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts with a master’s degree in photography and media art. Currently, I combine drawings and photography, engage in wood sculpture, animation. All this is like visual poetry, shots of nostalgic cinema. Characters emerging from the past. Fields drowned in snow. Silent portraits of men, women, children, animals. Harsh architecture of buildings. A sea drowned in itself. Lately, I have been very shocked by the wars that have been raging nearby. House skeletons, car wrecks, gray landscape, empty streets and emptiness. Hence the name of the exhibition – “Empty Swing”.
