A bust of Kazimieras Venclauskis, the owner of this house, greets you at the entrance to Venclauskiai House-Museum. K. Venclauskis was an extraordinary personality of the first half of the 20th century – lawyer, political, social and cultural figure. He was one of the most prominent figures of the Lithuanian national movement and the restoration of Lithuania’s Independence. In 1918, he was one of the first to start organising the city municipality. In the years 1918-1919, he was the first burgomaster of Šiauliai City of independent Lithuania. For many years, Kazimieras Venclauskis was also the father of the largest family in Lithuania, a philanthropist who earned money for the orphans he and his wife Stanislava Venclauskienė were raising.
The monument was built in 2005 to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the birth of Kazimieras Venclauskis. The author of the sculpture was Gintautas Lukošaitis. It was financed by Kazimieras Venclauskis’s daughters Danutė and Gražbylė and his foster children living in America.
