“Mother” was one of the last works of sculptor Antanas Raudonis. The artist did not finish it, because he died suddenly in the year 1939. The sculpture depicts the figure of a mother holding a baby in her arms.
Antanas Raudonis lived during the time of the Lithuanian press ban, and he could not stay away from Lithuanian books and publications. He was not only interested in the Lithuanian press and read it, but also provided it to others. A. Raudonis used to bring banned books from Prussia.
According to his wife L. Raudonienė “he loved stones more than me and the children... He used to walk around the fields with a cane looking for a suitable stone. After finding it, he became happy as a small child and brought it home as if it were a huge treasure. He carried stones with a special sleigh that was pulled by as many as four horses.”
