A stone “Samogitian” sits on a bench in Šiauliai pedestrian boulevard (Vilniaus St.) near the Art Gallery. Sculptor Kazys Bimba found this pink granite boulder in his hometown near Kairai and placed it on a bench in 2013.
Samogitian is the traditional name for the resident of Samogitia (Lith. Žemaitija). In the old maps of Lithuania, Žemaitija was called Samogitia.
The author created the sculpture thinking about a tough, strong, unbreakable Samogitians.
We invite you to sit down near Samogitian, hug him and get inspired by his strength.
