The Serpentine Hill is located in Radviliškis Leisure and Entertainment Park, next to the Latvian Culture Centre. At the very top of the hill, there is the sculptural composition “City Chronicle”, which was given as a present by Stasys Žirgulis, honorary citizen of Radviliškis, to his native town.
Everyone, going along the path to the top of the hill, is invited to stop at the stops where the dates important to Radviliškis Town, its history and development are carved on cast-iron plates covering the stones:
1st stop. In 1567, Radviliškis was mentioned for the first time in the list of cities of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
2nd stop. In 1597, the Catholic church of Radviliškis and the parish school were mentioned for the first time.
3rd stop. In 1710, during the Great Northern War, no inhabitants left in Radviliškis after years of famine and plague.
4th stop. In 1870, he construction of the Liepaja - Romnai Railroad line, Radviliškis began to grow rapidly.
5th stop. In November 1919, the Lithuanian army beat Bermontinians.
6th stop. In 1924, Radviliškis was granted city rights.
7th stop. In 1992, the presidium of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Lithuania approved the coat of arms and flag of Radviliškis Town created by Laima Ramonienė.
At the top of the hill, there are four grey granite pillars. Each of them is formed from three dressed stone cubes of different sizes. The coat of arms of the town is embedded on granite slabs in the middle of the pillars. Creatively presented past of the town, cosy environment, comfortably placed benches – all this has turned Serpentine Hill into a place of attraction and rest for the residents of Radviliškis and their guests.
The sculptural composition “City Chronicle” was built in 2017 commemorating the 450th anniversary of Radviliškis Town. Its author is sculptor Stasys Žirgulis, an honorary citizen of Radviliškis region, and architect is Edmundas Makštutis.
